Sunday 4 Feb at 10.30am
The sun is sinking low, my darling, the birds are in their nests. And you have spent the day exploring, so now it’s time to rest. A beautiful and timeless Australian lullaby story.
Little people! Grab your big people, put your party pants on and come join us on Sunday the 4th of Feb for the BOOK LAUNCH party event of the year (so far), for ‘Time To Rest’ – the debut children’s book from super-creative Brisbane couple, Jack and Natasha Carty. There will be an authors’ reading of the book, a live musical performance, and some crafting for all ages. You can even take home your own Australian native animal artwork (and the book, of course!). Humans of all sizes are all welcome, but get in quick because tickets are limited. *Please note, this event is ticketed, but a $20 ticket covers a family of up to 5 people and includes a copy of the book.
Jack Carty is a songwriter, musician, author, and graphic designer living in Brisbane Australia. His childhood, spent amongst the valleys of the mid-north coast of NSW, and the banjos and bunting of Australia’s folk festivals, instilled in him a lifelong compulsion to create. It’s a path that has taken him around the world: touring his critically acclaimed indie-folk music, releasing 6 albums and 2 EPs, scoring a #1 Independent Australian Album; and collaborating with the likes of Josh Pyke, Dan Wilson (Semisonic), Katie Noonan and The Once along the way. Jack is one half of “The Cardy Club” – a vibrant award-winning greetings card business he started with his illustrator wife, Natasha, whilst the pair were living and working in the UK. Their creations are now sold in shops big and small, gifted, and enjoyed across five continents. In 2022, inspired by their two young children, The Carty’s embarked on their newest collaboration together. A beautiful collection of children’s books, written by Jack and Illustrated by Natasha. The first of which – Time to Rest – will be released through Scholastic Australia in February 2024.
Natasha Carty is a Brisbane-based illustrator and designer with a rather colourful background. She could tell you stories from her childhood about escaping charging goannas by running on the back of old oil drums, or hiding in a University lecture theatre while her Dad gave a lesson in animation. As a grown up, the colourful theme continues with Natasha having lived and worked in five different cities (including Sydney, London and LA) in a variety of different creative roles including; illustrator, graphic designer, fine artist, film and television production, photographers assistant and even starting and running her own award-winning greeting card company, “The Cardy Club” - which has been spreading smiles across five continents since 2018. Despite all this, Natasha would call her latest creative adventure into children’s Book illustration her most exciting and fulfilling work to date. Pairing up once again with her long-time creative collaborator (and super-hairy husband) - songwriter, musician and (now) author - Jack Carty, to create a collection of children’s books, inspired by their best collaborative work - their two wonderful children. Using a mix of gouache, watercolours, pens, pencils and digital paints to create her work, like her life, Natasha’s illustrations are bold, colourful and a little-bit weird.
