Join Geoff Monteith to launch Jessa Thurman's debut reference book, Australia's Incredible Insects. Discover the secret lives of Aussie insects with entomologist Jessa and hear her own story behind making the book. Meet some of the stars from the book, with a live insect display. You may end up dancing like a leaf insect (Walaphyllium monteithi) or cuddling a giant burrowing cockroach (Macropanesthia rhinoceros).

Jessa Thurman is an entomologist and photographer who combined her interests to make Australia's Incredible Insects. She is originally from Arkansas, USA, but has lived in Australia for many years to study the insect wonders here. Her outsider perspective has helped her see the unique beauty of Australian insects and their strange lives. She shares this perspective in her book to introduce kids of all ages to entomology and support their interest in the natural world.

Dr. Geoff Monteith worked with Australia’s wonderful and diverse insects for 50 years while in charge of the research insect collections of the University of Queensland and then the Queensland Museum. He is passionate about educating youngsters about the environment by breaking down their learned inhibitions against insects. He pioneered the popular live insect displays at the Queensland Museum and for twenty years ran workshops around Australia giving them skills and ideas for using insects in their classrooms.
