Award-winning author and performing artist Chris Collin (a.k.a the Funky Chicken) is coming to Where the Wild Things Are for a fun and funky show. Chris' literacy based show includes puppetry, musical narration, song and dance, art activities; and is all built around his simple philosophy of making reading run. So make sure you come along for Mission InCROCible

About Chris Collin's Books:

Chris’ first book Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks has sold over 20,000 copies and was short-listed for the 2014 Speech Pathology Australia book of the year. His latest title Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space was voted winner of the Speech Pathology Australia book of the year in 2016. The chook is on the move – both Funky Chicken titles are about to be published and distributed in mainland China!

Chris’ books all come with an amazing audio-visual CD where he narrates his stories to an incredible orchestral score plus sings a song about each story.  The CD is produced in broadcast quality and plays the entire book as a full audio-visual slideshow

Recent Author Visit Testimonials:

Thanks so much Chris!" - St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, Wilston

2017 - "Chris is a gifted storyteller with much enthusiasm and energy.  The students loved the visit so much and a teacher commented that he was the “best Author we’ve ever had”.  I loved Chris’s use of pace in the lesson, varied activities, integrated music and use of visuals digital and physical.   We will definitely invite Chris back to our College." - AB Patterson College, Gold Coast

Chris has been a full time author, presenter (and enthusiologist) for the last 5 years, since leaving a career in civil construction project management. He has always had a love of children’s literature; and as a dad he loved reading the bouncy rhyme of Dr Suess to his son Sam. Chris wrote the draft for his first book Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks originally as a play at Sam’s primary school camp in 2005, where he was a parent volunteer.  Sadly, Chris’ wife, and Sams mum Su, passed away in 2011. Chris made a promise to Su during her illness, that he would one day publish Funky Chicken. He did just that in 2013; honouring her memory by dedicating the book to Su and Sam.

With the help of his puppet friends, Chris presents to thousands of children and adults around the country and internationally every year. He is deeply committed to making a contribution to children’s literature by creating stories and experiences that encourage children (and their adults) to read for the joy of reading!

We charge $7.50 for each child's ticket, this amount is redeemable against the author's books on the event day.
